The Mission District of San Francisco is the kind of place where transgender bike messengers live chockablock with marketing executives, thrift stores brace for the encroachment of Starbucks, and heroin addicts nod off next to Hummers. It is on these slightly mean, thoroughly gentrified streets that two young graffiti artists come of age in "Quality of Life," a minor movie, modestly made, that develops to a counterculture beat but ends with a status quo conundrum: Is selling out the new keeping it real?
