King Curtis - Azure
King Curtis is een Amerikaanse tenor, alt, en sopraan saxofonist. Een sessie muzikant die rhythm & blues, rock & roll, soul, funk en soul jazz speelde en die in de jaren 50 beroemd werd om zijn saxofoonsolo's op vele Atlantic hits, zoals op "Yakety Yak" van The Coasters. Zijn stotterende spel wordt toonaangevend voor saxofoonsolo's op tientallen Rock & Roll hits. In '69 wordt hij leider van de band van Aretha Franklin. Zijn loopbaan lijkt voorspoedig te verlopen tot hij in '71 voor zijn appartement in New York wordt doodgestoken. In 2000 wordt hij posthuum geeërd met een plek in de Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame.
